At Lake Erie Graphics we are dedicated to making environmentally responsible choices in our everyday business practices. We know environmental issues are important to our customers as well. We have provided a few tips below to help you and your company make your office more environmentally friendly.
-
Place recycling bins or containers near trash cans and central locations in your office. Be sure to clearly label the bins so that
materials are correctly separated.
-
Buy recycled and FSC certified paper.
-
Print on both sides of the paper.
-
Distribute office memos through email.
-
Limit your printing by keeping back up files on your computer, instead of in a file cabinet. This also makes it easier to pull up and edit old files.
-
Buy in bulk to minimize packaging.
-
Encourage staff who cannot recycle certain items at home to bring those items to the office to recycle.
-
Use a digital camera. This saves waste created from disposable
cameras, film, and chemicals.
-
Avoid printing out emails you receive unless necessary.
-
Keep scrap paper around for those quick notes.
-
Recycle your printer cartridges.
-
Set your computer to go to sleep when not in use, and turn it off when you leave for the night.
-
Be sure to use the spell check and print preview functions before
printing out a document.
-
Avoid disposable plates, cups, bowls, and utensils.
-
Bring your lunch to work in a reusable container.
-
Use canvas bags for shopping and have a canvas bag in the kitchen area for your co-workers to use when running errands.
-
Create office rewards for recycling.
-
Consider holding conference calls instead of traveling. This saves time, fuel, and energy.
-
Buy furniture for your office that is made from FSC Certified material.
-
Update the mailing list - delete any out of date addresses.
-
Ask your suppliers about their environmental policies.
-
Switch office light bulbs to energy saving bulbs.
-
Take advantage of natural light if it is available.
-
Get some small indoor plants.
-
Sponsor or support local environmental initiatives.
